Role Purpose
As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in the governance and strategic leadership of the charity. You will work collaboratively with fellow Trustees to ensure the organisation is well-run, financially sustainable, legally compliant, and delivering meaningful impact for people experiencing homelessness in Harrow.
Trustees share collective responsibility for the overall direction, oversight, and performance of the charity.
Key Responsibilities
Governance & Strategy
- Contribute to setting and reviewing the charity’s strategic direction.
- Ensure the charity operates in line with its charitable objectives and governing document.
- Monitor performance against agreed plans and objectives.
- Safeguard the charity’s reputation and values within the local community.
Legal & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure compliance with charity law, company law (if applicable), and relevant regulations.
- Oversee safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies.
- Ensure appropriate risk management processes are in place.
Financial Stewardship
- Approve annual budgets and monitor financial performance.
- Ensure proper financial controls and accountability.
- Support fundraising strategy and sustainability planning.
Support & Accountability
- Appoint, support, and hold accountable senior volunteers or staff (if applicable).
- Act as an ambassador for the charity within the London borough and wider networks.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of the charity’s work.
Person Specification
We welcome applications from individuals with a passion for social justice and supporting people experiencing homelessness. Prior trustee experience is helpful but not essential.
Essential
- Commitment to the charity’s mission and values.
- Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.
- Ability to think strategically and work collaboratively.
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills.
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, charity governance responsibilities.
Desirable (but not required)
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Homelessness services or social care
- Finance or accountancy
- Fundraising or grant applications
- HR or employment law
- Safeguarding
- Communications and marketing
- Local government or community engagement within a London borough

Appointment & Term
Trustees are appointed for an initial term of three years, renewable by agreement in line with the charity’s governing document.
Safeguarding & Eligibility
This role is subject to eligibility under charity law. Due to the nature of our work with vulnerable adults, a DBS check may be required.
